  2. Prepare 2-3 tsp of Moong dal.
  3. Prepare 300 gm of Chicken boneless.

  5. You need 1 of Onion chopped.

  7. It’s 1/4 cup of Carrot.

  10. It’s 1/2 tsp of garam masala powder.
  11. You need 1/4 tsp of Turmeric powder.
  12. It’s 1 tsp of Red chilli powder.
  13. You need 2 cup of Thick coconut milk.
  14. Prepare as needed of Water.
  15. You need As needed of Oil.
  16. Prepare to taste of Salt.
  17. Prepare leaves of Coriander.
  18. It’s 2 pinch of Cinnamon.

It is a well known Iftar Meal usually taken after breaking fast. "In India almost everybody stops to rejoice for a few minutes following the iftar sirens and adhan. Nombu Kanji / Nonbu Kanji is a porridge made during the ramadan season to break the fast in the evening. This recipe is from my good friend Thahira. Thahira's father was a Quran scholar in Vridhachalam, Tamilnadu.

  1. Wash raw rice and Moong dall, grind together and keep aside..
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add spices to temper.
  3. Add ginger garlic paste, onion, green chilli saute it untill onion turns transparent in colour..
  4. Add chopped carrot, tomato beans,cabbage and saute it well.
  5. Add turmeric powder,red chilli powder,masala powder..
  6. Add chicken saute it untill cooked.
  7. Then add rice and Moong dal.
  8. Add water and pressure cook for 5 to 6 whistles or until mushy.Once pressure releases open and mash it well..
  9. Heat it again and add little more water if it's too thick, then add coconut milk, garnish with coiriander leaves and switch off the flame.
  10. Serve hot or warm very very yummy dish.

Their house was inside the Town Juma Palli Vaasal (Masjid) compound. Thahira remembers the Ramadan season very vividly. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker, add in seasoning ingredients and mix well for a min. Add in onions, chillies and salt. Wash the rice and fenugreek seed together and let the water to drain.
